Seventh Grade English provides students with arts-integrated lessons that include grammar, novel study and writing. Portfolio construction continues with the addition of more milestones, and students are encouraged to participate in the writing anthology. Our VAPA projects often involve creating artistic responses to the novels we read. In honors classes, our VAPA curriculum gives students a meaningful depth of knowledge experience. They will be challenged to find the deep connections between their creative mind and the literature we study

Math

7th grade math prepares students for Algebra and more abstract thinking. Students deepen understanding of proportional relationships. Students will understand and use the terms "scaled copy", "to scale", "scale factor", "scale drawing", and "scale", and recognize when two pictures of plane figures are or are not scaled copies of each other. Students also create informal geometric constructions, and two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume.

Science

As Seventh Graders, they will cover two topics in the same year, Health and Science. The Health curriculum is mandated by California, including nutrition, personal health, social skills and anti-drug and –tobacco programs. In addition, keeping with Hale’s tradition of academic rigor, the Seventh Grade science program uses Next Generation Science Standards across the science disciplines, emphasizing engineering and the arts.

History

During the year we will be covering many aspects of reading, writing, and reasoning, while integrating the VAPA art standards. Students will be able to develop critical thinking and demonstrate their understanding of material through project-based learning, tests, quizzes, groups and independent study. This class is taught using the 7th grade general education Common Core curriculum.
